EARLIER THIS MONTH I MENTIONED HERE THAT THERE WAS AN LP OF BASIL RATHBONE DOING "THE CHRISTMAS CAROL". WELL KIDDIE RECORDS WEEKLY WAS KIND ENOUGH TO POST IT FOR US ALL TO SHARE. THE WEBSITE IS NOT SET UP SO I CAN LINK DIRECTLY TO AN INDIVIDUAL RECORD SHARE. YOU CAN GO TO THE 2007 PAGE HERE, AND SCROLL DOWN TO THE END OF THE LEFT HAND COLUMN TO WEEK 51 OF DECEMBER 2007. THERE YOU WILL SEE THE LINK TO GRAB THIS GREAT LP. THANKS KIDDIE RECORDS WEEKLY. HERE'S AN IMAGE OF THE LP FRONT COVER:

ATTEMPTED SLIDE SCAN MY OLDER BROTHER (IN BACK), SISTER AND I AT CHRISTMAS 1968
THIS WAS MY FEEBLE ATTEMPT AT TRYING TO SCAN ONE OF MY DAD'S OLD CHRISTMAS SLIDES. HE HAS A MICROTEK SLIDE SCANNER, AND IT CAME OUT EVEN WORSE. ANWAY THIS IS US GETTING READY FOR CHURCH THE SUNDAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS 1968 (NOTICE AT TOP OF THE PHOTO THE TIP OF THE WING OF ONE OF THOSE COMMENSERATE FLYING DUCKS EVERY GOOD 1960'S HOME HAD TO HAVE):

THESE ARE KIND OF SIMILAR TO THE DUCKS I WAS TALKING ABOUT ALTHOUGH MY PARENTS WERE A LITTLE MORE DETAILED IN BOTH THE BODY AND THE WING DESIGNS:

"THAT CHRISTMAS FEELING" J.C.PENNEY (COLUMBIA SPECIAL PRODUCTS P11853 1973)
LIKE W. T. GRANT'S DID, J. C. PENNEY HAD SEVERAL CHRISTMAS LPS THEY PUT OUT WHEN I WAS A KID IN THE 1970's. I'VE ALREADY SHARED "THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS". ANOTHER ONE THEY RELEASED WAS CALLED "THE GOLDEN GLOW OF CHRISTMAS". MY DAD HAS THIS ONE, BUT I HAVEN'T GOT A RIP OF IT ON HAND. HERE'S THE COVER OF THAT ONE:

THE LAST ONE I'VE FOUND REFERENCE TO WAS FROM 1974 CALLED "THE BRIGHTEST STARS OF CHRISTMAS" SHOWN HERE:

A MERRY MANCINI CHRISTMAS (RCA VICTOR LSP-3612 1966)
"Fans of Henry Mancini will find Merry Mancini Christmas to be an ideal holiday record. Released in 1966, at the height of his popularity, the album is filled with the lush arrangements that are his aural signature, and they sound perfect when matched with these 11 Christmas medleys and carols. It is a warm, appealing record that blends easily into the background, making it a good choice for holiday gatherings of all sorts. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide"
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN THIS LP WITH THIS PARTICULAR COVER. MOST I'VE SEEN ONLINE HAD THIS COVER:

BARRY GORDON - "NUTTIN' FOR CHRISTMAS"

GAYLA PEEVEY -- "I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHRISTMAS" 1958
I FOUND THIS ON YOUTUBE. I'D BEEN HEARING IT ON OUR LOCAL RADIO STATION FOR WEEKS NOW, AND WONDERED WHO TI WAS. HERE'S WHAT WIKIPEDIA HAS TO SAY ABOUT THE SONG AND GAYLA PEEVEY:
"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" is a Christmas novelty song written by John Coctoasten and performed by Gayla Peevey (11 years old at the time) in 1953. According to legend, she was a regional child star of the Oklahoma City area. This 1953 hit was recorded as a fund-raiser to bring the city zoo a hippo. When released nationally by Columbia Records the song shot to the top of the charts, and the city zoo got a baby hippo named Matilda.
It is a Dr. Demento Christmas staple, and is currently available on Dr. Demento's The Greatest Novelty Records of All Time Vol. 6: Christmas.
The B-side of the original 78 featured the song "Are my Ears on Straight?" Wikipedia
Gayla Peevey now says, "I live in San Diego, Ca. with my husband of 41 years. We have a grown daughter who is a staff songwriter for Disney. Her professional name is Sydney Forest. I graduated from San Diego State University, and got a teaching credential, but didn't like teaching, so I quit and went into advertising. I had my own cottage ad agency for about 15 years. I was a media buyer, wrote and produced a lot of jingles, radio spots, etc. Now, I am having a great time writing songs, painting (watercolor mostly), and reading books." Courtesy "TheTexanSundial.com"
I HAD ALWAYS WONDERED ABOUT THE SINGER. SHE CAN DOES HAVE AN ADULT VOCAL STYLE FOR AN 11 YEAR OLD. I TRIED FINDING THE B-SIDE SONG "ARE MY EARS ON STRAIGHT", BUT I WASN'T ABLE TO FIND IT ANYWHERE. ANYWAY, HERE'S THE SONG:
