BURL IVES "RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER" CARTOON SOUNDTRACK (DECCA RECORDS)

"Rudolph the Red–Nosed Reindeer is a long-running Christmas television special produced in stop motion animation by Rankin/Bass. It first aired December 6, 1964 on the NBC television network in the USA and was sponsored by General Electric. It is based on the song by Johnny Marks, and in turn taken from the 1939 poem of the same title written by Marks' brother-in-law, Robert L. May. Since 1972, the special has aired over CBS, who unveiled a high-definition, digitally remastered version in 2005.

In the story of Rudolph (voiced by Billie Mae Richards) numerous new characters are introduced for the first time as it was told by Romeo Muller. From the original song lyrics, the show features Santa (voiced by Stan Francis) and Mrs. Claus (who speaks with a vaguely Irish brogue) and the reindeer mentioned in the song. Of them, Donder is identified as Rudolph's father, and Comet is presented as the coach of the reindeer team. (Donder and Comet are voiced identically by Paul Kligman.)" Courtesy Wikipedia

The Grinch has successfully displaced Ebeneezer Scrooge as the spirit of anti-Christmas for today's audience. And there are similarities. Just as Tiny Tim was a strong factor in Ebeneezer's redemption, the children are a strong factor in the Grinch's redemption.

It's a pleasure to be able to hear the great Boris Karloff narration, along with the songs, and then afterwards to again hear the songs reprised.

Of course, this is a short CD, just barely 30 minutes in length. One must realize that while the program was supposed to be a half hour long, nearly a third of the time was used for toy advertisements. The irony of it all, a beautiful story telling us that the joy of Christmas is in the spirit of Christmas, not in the getting toys is aired for the purpose of selling overpriced and non-imaginative toys.

Like thousands of other kids my age in 1967 I had the single to Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron. I had never heard this LP from the Royal Guardsmen until I acquired this one last year off ebay.
Side 1 of the LP is a drama involving all three of the Snoopy record singles. Side 2 is a mixture of love songs, airplane songs and Christmas songs. This copy was a bit choppy in a few spots, but I've tried to edit the skips out as best I could. I hope you enjoy it.

"IT'S CHRISTMASTIME AGAIN, CHARLIE BROWN":

"It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown is a television special based off the comic strip Peanuts. It consists of several different Christmas-themed storylines adaptated from the strip:

Charlie Brown tries to sell wreaths door-to-door because he wants to buy Peggy Jean a nice pair of gloves.
Peppermint Patty worries about her Christmas book report.
The gang participates in a Christmas play, where Peppermint Patty reluctantly plays a sheep and Sally messes up her single line. (The line relegated to Sally was "Hark!", but instead she shouts "Hockey Stick!"-- which was taken from an 80s storyline in the comic strip)
Although it was first shown on CBS in 1992 (and would be the last Peanuts special to have its television premiere on that network), a VHS release was made available at Shell gas stations a few months prior, which would make this the first Peanuts special released directly to video. Paramount gave it another video release in 1996, and it can now also be seen as a bonus special on the DVD of A Charlie Brown Christmas. It was dubbed by Universal Studios.

ABC has combined It's Christmastime Again with A Charlie Brown Christmas in its most recent annual broadcasts, airing its separate stories directly afterwards but without the special's own title sequence. YTV still airs it as a stand alone special.

This is the first Peanuts TV special since It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown to make use of the famous Vince Guaraldi music scores, even though he died in 1976. The old music was remixed into soft-rock versions for many of the 1990s Peanuts specials."

Well I got a DVD of the "Charlotte's Web" cartoon. I went through it as best I could, and matched up rips from the movie to make them into a DVD quality soundtrack. There were a couple tracks, such as the "End Title" that I was just not able to match up to the Soundtrack LP. The LP version just isn't in the DVD at the same length as it can be heard on the album. I looked all over for a better copy of the soundtrack, and I just wasn't able to find it. Anyway, here is that rip at 320 kbps:

IN THE SAME STYLE OF LP I THOUGHT I WOULD LINK TO ONE OF TONY'S LPs AT HIS GREAT "WAY OUT JUNK" BLOG CALLED MUSIC AND STORIES FROM ORIGINAL HIT TV AND MOVIE CARTOONS.
"In 1960, King Features Syndicate commissioned a new series of Popeye cartoons, but this time for television syndication. Jack Mercer (Popeye), Mae Questel (Olive Oyl & Betty Boop), and Jackson Beck (Bluto) returned for this series, which was produced by a number of companies, including Jack Kinney Productions, Rembrandt Films, Larry Harmon Productions and Paramount Cartoon Studios (formerly Famous Studios). The artwork was streamlined and simplified for the television budgets, and 220 cartoons were produced in only two years, with the first set of them premiering in the autumn of 1960, and the last of them debuting during the 1961-1962 television season."

I shared this on a separate web page, but in line with the Disney's "Sounds Of Outer Space" LP I shared HERE, I thought I would share the Christmas LP also.
Both the Christmas LP, and the Space LP are made in the similar fashion as Disney's "Chilling, Thrilling Sounds Of The Haunted House". Each of the 3 LPs has one side using the sounds in story fashion, and then the second side of all 3 LPs are the indiviudal sounds that you can use to make your own stories with.

Jimmy Nelson's Instant Ventriloquism Record (Juro Celebrity Records JCR 101 1972)

I found this great 1970's record offerred over at Kirk D's great "Secret Fun Blog" Blog HERE.

"Bozo Under The Sea" And "Bugs Bunny And The Tortoise" (Capitol Records L6818-RR)

Originally released as 78 RPM records. Capitol Records later re-released several of their titles in this double format in the 33 RPM LP form. These LPs were produced by Alan Livingston. A little info on Livingston and Captiol records from wikipedia:

"His initial assignment was to create a children's record library for the four-year old company, for which he created the "Bozo the Clown" character. He wrote and produced a popular series of storytelling record-album and illustrative read-along book sets beginning with the September 1946 release of "Bozo at the Circus." His record-reader concept, which enabled children to read and follow a story in pictures while listening to it, was the first of its kind. The Bozo image was a composite design of Livingston's, derived from a variety of clown pictures and given to an artist to turn into comic-book-like illustrations. Livingston then hired Pinto Colvig to portray Bozo on the recordings. Colvig, a former circus clown, was also the original voice of Walt Disney's Pluto, Goofy, Grumpy, Sleepy and many other characters. Billy May produced the music. The series turned out to be a smash hit for Capitol, selling over eight million albums in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Successful record sales led to a variety of Bozo-related merchandise and the first television series, "Bozo's Circus," starring Pinto Colvig on KTTV-Channel 11 (CBS) in Los Angeles in 1949. The character also became a mascot for the record company and was later nicknamed "Bozo the Capitol Clown."

Livingston wrote and produced many other children's recordings including products for Walt Disney; Walter Lantz's Woody Woodpecker; Bugs Bunny and all of the Warner Bros. characters. In the case of the latter, he wrote the 1951 pop hit "I Taut I Taw a Puddy Tat" for Mel Blanc's Tweety Pie."

Other titles in this series included Woody Woodpecker, Tweety & Sylvester, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Gerald McBoing-Boing & Rusty.

First let me say that I'm sorry about the quality of this sound file. I still have not figured out what went wrong. It is either a problem with my turntable, cassette deck or the cassette tapes that I copy my LPs onto to rip them to my PC. I've never had this problem until this LP. It figures it would be one that some folks have been waiting months for me to post. Hopefully I can either figure out what is wrong, and try to make a better rip later. Sorry again for the bad quality.
