"Hi. This is one of the more obscure Filmation soundtracks. "Mission Magic" aired for one season in 1973/1974, and featured an animated version of teen idol Rick Springfield. Rick had enjoyed a Top 10 U.S. single the year before with "Speak to the Sky."

The cartoon centered on a school teacher named Miss Tickle, who would take her students on magical adventures as part of their lessons. It's on these "magic trips" (nudge nudge, wink wink) that she enlists the aid of Rick (as himself) to help them when they encounter trouble. The cartoon itself is pretty trippy, with bright psychedelic colors and designs used as backdrops for the musical numbers.

Rick penned and performed all the songs on the series, and it's good gum. To me, it's his best work. The LP, highly collectible and long out-of-print, was reissued on CD in 2004. I think the CD is now OOP as well. I give you the CD version, with a bonus track of "Speak to the Sky." Enjoy!

HOT WHEELS!! The 1969 Cartoon LP!

"Hi. Remember the "Hot Wheels" cartoon from 1969? The show was part of the "Saturday Super Club" programming on ABC-TV...the pic from the comic book ad may jog your memory. It was basically a half-hour cartoon ad for the Mattel toyline of the same name. The FCC cancelled the show for this reason, but not before a comic book from DC and a soundtrack album from Forward Records were released. Classic toon designer Alex Toth provided the look of the show, and also drew the DC comic book. Like "Scooby-Doo," there were bubblegum songs played during the show even though the characters weren't in a band. Mike Curb and Michael Lloyd produced the album, which features an anonymous Davie Allan and the Arrows playing the soundtrack!
The theme to "Sky Hawks," another Curb endeavor that ran side by side with "Hot Wheels," is included on this album. "Hi. Remember "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp"? It opened a lot of doors for the animal kingdom by being the first all-ape show. This 1970 live-action series starred real monkeys as secret agents who work for A.P.E. (Agency to Prevent Evil). As if that wasn't cool enough, it gets better. By night, they tore up the club scene in a psychedelic rock band called The Evolution Revolution. Just check out those outfits! The great gum music they produced was actually played by real psych/pop band The Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band (fronted by Steve Hoffman), whose two albums I may post later. The tunes are great, and the band is tight. I want to thank my friend pugsly13 for allowing me to repost his Link (no pun intended). It's a super clean transfer, and he even threw in a ton of TV-only tracks as bonus material! Enjoy. Following is the TRACK LISTING and link:

"Hi. The cartoon gum craze was spilling over into commercials by 1972. This band is fronted by Sugar Bear, the Post Cereals icon. I don't know a lot about the musicians involved, but Kim Carnes cut her teeth on this album years before becoming a solo artist. Glen Frey of Eagles fame lent a hand with the production side. The songs are pretty infectious pop, especially the hit single "You Are the One." There were cereal box records available as well as this, their only album. From my vinyl rip of the Big Tree Records album, I give you The Sugar Bears! Original album cover artwork, front and back, and a pic of a cereal box record are included in the folder. Enjoy. THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES!! The 1965 TV-Cast LP!

"Hi. "The Beverly Hillbillies" is another one of my all-time favorite TV series. Creator Paul Henning's brand of country bumpkin humor was both hilarious and endearing. We all know the "fish-out-of-water" storyline...poor mountaineer Jed Clampett strikes oil and moves his family to a jetset neighborhood in Beverly Hills, California. Buddy Ebsen played Jed perfectly, with an age-old wisdom hiding behind his apparent naivete. Irene Ryan's Granny was feisty and irresistable, Donna Douglas was beautiful and charming as Jed's tomboy daughter Elly May, and Max Baer was a hoot as cousin Jethro Bodine, the family genius with a "sixth grade education" to his credit. Add to this mix Raymond Bailey, who had me in stitches as Mr. Drysdale, the paranoid banker who looked after the Clampetts' assets. Drysdale employed a secretary named "Miss Jane" Hathaway, whom he assigned to "refine" the Clampetts and teach them how to blend in with Beverly Hills high society. Actress Nancy Culp's Miss Jane had her hands full with this task, but relished the challenge and was essential in highlighting the cultural differences that formed the basis of the show's humor. The series ran on CBS-TV from 1962-1971. In 1965, Harmony Records released an album that featured the entire cast in a musical setting. With the bluegrass backing of Flatt & Scruggs, our stars sing and joke their way through songs written primarily by radio personality and musician Zeke Manners, with help from Henning and Ebsen. PEANUTS- GOOD GRIEF, CHARLIE BROWN!! The Rare 1962 Columbia Harmony LP!

"Hi. In 1962, Columbia Records decided to bring Charles Schultz' beloved "Peanuts" comic strip to a new media- comedy records! The newspaper strip started in 1950, and centered on the adventures of "good ol' Charlie Brown," based on Schultz' own childhood memories. The "Peanuts" gang produced many great characters, but this first album centers on dialogue between Charlie Brown and Lucy, the yin and the yang. As always, Charlie Brown is the calm voice of reason that lacks self esteem. Lucy, on the other hand, is the overconfident antagonist whose self-serving world views only strive to humiliate Charlie. Charles Schultz wrote this entire album, expanding themes that are drawn from the comic strip. The voice-actors are comedy writer Arthur Siegel as Charlie Brown and stage and screen actress Kaye Ballard (later of "The Mothers-In-Law"- thanks, Larry!) as Lucy. The music that surrounds the comedy bits was composed and orchestrated by the great Fred Karlin, famous for his work with Benny Goodman, Harry James, and Raymond Scott. The album was produced by John Hammond and released on Columbia's Harmony imprint (HS11230). This is one of the toughest "Peanuts" records to find. It predates all of the TV specials and was a landmark event in the history of America's greatest comic strip. "Hi. Remember The Hudson Brothers? They had a great primetime variety series on CBS-TV in the summer of 1974. "The Hudson Brothers Show" did so well as a summer replacement series that CBS put in a quick order for a Saturday morning version to debut the following month. Becoming "The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show," the boys graced our TV sets through 1975. Mark, Brett, and Bill had been making records since 1972, originally under the name "Hudson." By the time their second album was picking up speed, Casablanca Records scurried to put together a soundtrack album to tie in with their TV success. "Hollywood Situation," from 1974, offers songs heard in both TV series as well as a comedy skit called "The Adventures of Chucky Margolis," one of the more popular segments from both series. This album, along with the TV push, scored them a hit with the Beatlesque "So You Are A Star." Even as their TV career was nearing its end, they had a big hit in 1975 with "Rendezvous." This is from their Rocket Records debut called "Ba-Fa." As an FYI, I should mention that Bill is the father of actress Kate Hudson (he was married to Goldie Hawn at the time). I haven't heard much from Brett since, but Mark has been busy collaborating with, producing, and touring with Ringo Starr in recent years. Their songs were all solid AM pop material, mostly penned by the three brothers themselves. I give you my vinyl rips of "Hollywood Situation" (Casablanca, 1974) and "Ba-Fa" (Rocket Records, 1975). TARZAN!! The Rare 1966 TV-Soundtrack LP Plus Two Bonus Tracks!

"Hi. In 1966, NBC-TV and Banner Productions brought Edgar Rice Burroughs' pulp fiction hero Tarzan to the small screen. While actor Ron Ely was the fifteenth screen Tarzan, he was the first to play the King of the Jungle in a series made for television. As I watched this series through six-year-old eyes, I was thrilled by the action and adventure that each episode served up. Besides an opening narrative (included on this album!), there is little time spent on Tarzan's origin. Here, Lord Greystoke (Tarzan's birth name) has already been educated in civilization. Disillusioned by his new world, he returns to Africa to live among the apes that raised him. With an orphaned boy named Jai and a pet chimpanzee named Cheetah, Tarzan protects his wild kingdom from a variety of evildoers. In its heyday, this series held its own in pop culture. There were many toys available featuring Ely's likeness, including a lunchbox, trading cards, and a fine run of Gold Key TV-comics (like the issue pictured here). The soundtrack album was released by Leo the Lion Records (LES-902 Stereo), and features a complete adventure called "The Eyes of The Lion," along with a unique recording of composer Sydney Lee's excellent theme music, "Tarzan's March." I've added two bonus tracks, the original TV recording of the theme (from my VHS tapes) and the second TV theme, which is entirely different. BATMAN!! The 1966 TV-Soundtrack LP Plus 5 Bonus Bat-Tracks!

"Hi. Never in the history of television has a show had more impact on me than the 1966 "Batman" series on ABC-TV. Every Wednesday and Thursday night, same bat-time and same bat-channel, I was enslaved to the show! Adam West and Burt Ward were the best Batman and Robin ever. Period. This series was pure pop art, innovative in every way. The bright use of primary colors made "Batman" a living comic book, using giant props right out of the classic Bill Finger/Dick Sprang stories from the 40s and 50s. The scripts themselves, while very campy, had a spirit that was faithful to the comic book stories from the golden age that inspired them. Producer William Dozier's camp approach was a stroke of genius, providing serious action for us kids (I will testify to that) and hilarious in-jokes for the parents and adult viewers. The costumes were closer to the comic versions than any of that ridiculous body-armor used in the current movies. As West told Bart Simpson, "no body armor needed...just pure West!" Now, let's talk about the great casting of the villians: Frank Gorshin, Burgess Meredith, Cesar Romero, and Julie Newmar OWNED their roles as the four major baddies The Riddler, The Penguin, The Joker, and The Catwoman. Each played their part with such zeal that you relished their next appearance. It's a crime that Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox can't stop arguing over money long enough to give this classic TV series to its biggest audience on DVD while we're still here to enjoy it. At any rate, I will share the AWESOME soundtrack album (20th-Century Fox Records, 1966) with you. In addition to the coolest TV theme song ever (written by Neal Hefti), the LP gives you Nelson Riddle's wonderful score for the series. I've also added bonus tracks of the ABC Records Penguin single by Burgess Meredith, the A&M; Riddler single by Frank Gorshin, the original Hefti version of the theme, and the "Batgirl" theme culled from a VHS tape! DAVID CASSIDY- "The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall"!! His Rare 1975 RCA Records Debut!

THIS IS A RE-POST OF A MONDODADDYKIN SHARE FROM LAST YEAR. HERE'S WHAT DADDYKIN HAD TO SAY ABOUT IT ON HIS BLOG:

"Hi. Even though this was technically David Cassidy's fifth "solo" album, many consider it his first because of the circumstances surrounding it. His career to this point was orchestrated by Bell Records. Even the non-Partridge Family records had a similar thread in that they used a lot of the same musicians, songwriters and producers. Now, to my ears, the Bell period will always be the golden period. Wes Farrell's production and arrangements, using strings and harpsichords with a pop group, were the perfect complement to David's throaty vocals. Let's face it, the boy had some chops. Well, when "The Partridge Family" was cancelled in 1974, so ended his contract with Bell. The end of a great era. Now a free agent for the first time in his career, David signed with RCA, who gave him complete control over his output. Cassidy could finally make the rock and roll album that he'd always wanted to. Released in 1975, this first RCA album is almost a concept album. Titled "The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall," it's a tongue-in-cheek jab at his own rise and fall. Cassidy produced the album himself with the help of Bruce Johnston. In addition to Johnston, the players include Beach Boy Carl Wilson, Richie Furay, Jesse Ed Davis, Danny Kortchmar, and Jim Gordon- all session players of rock and roll legend. The Turtles' Flo and Eddie sing backup on a couple of songs, and there's even a comedy skit with Phil Austin of The Firesign Theatre! Vince Guaraldi "Oh, Good Grief"!

Here's a collection of the songs that Vince Guaraldi wrote for the Charlie Brown cartoons. He can be heard here playing the piano and electric harpsichord. Vince is backed-up by Carl Burnett on drums, Stanley Gilbert on bass, and Eddie Duran on electric guitar. Oh, Good Grief! isn't Vince Guaraldi's classic piano-trio recordings of his "Peanuts" favorites--for those, try the soundtrack to A Boy Named Charlie Brown. But it is a 1968 "re-imagining" of several of those favorites. The sound is unfamiliar but the groove is unmistakably Guaraldi's, and it'll grow on you after your ear adjusts. For purists, the "Great Pumpkin Waltz" and "Rain, Rain Go Away" are a return to Guaraldi's trademark acoustic lyricism.

Disney's "Nikki Wild Dog Of The North"

This story, based on the novel Nomads of the North by James Oliver Curwood, is about the adventures of a malamute dog named Nikki. Nikki and his kind master, Andre Dupas, are traveling via canoe through the Canadian Rockies. When Nikki encounters Neewa, a bear cub that's lost its mother, Andre ties the two animals together, plops them in the canoe, and heads for the rapids. When the two animals become separated from Andre, the unlikely pair must learn to survive in the wilderness. What is initially a relationship of hate and incompatibility transforms into one of compromise and friendship between species. Encounters with timber wolves, lynx, wolverines, and many other wild animals are vividly photographed and give viewers a real sense of life in the wild . When Neewa begins his long winter hibernation, Nikki sets off alone on a desperate hunt for food. Man's scent leads him not to the friendly Andre Dupas, but to an angry trader who attempts to trap and poison him, eventually capturing him and training him as a fighting dog. This 73-minute feature has absolutely breathtaking animal and nature photography and the action is plentiful and absorbing. Especially forward-thinking for its time (1961) are its declaration that Indians don't deserve to be treated as slaves, but as equals in the quest to trap animals, and its assertion that dog fights are "cruel, savage, not human, and bloodthirsty."

KING KONG!! The Original 1966 TV-Cartoon LP!

"Hi. In 1966, "King Kong" made his debut as a cartoon character with his own series on ABC-TV. The world's favorite giant ape was leased from RKO Properties by producer William J. Keenan and animators Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass. Set on faraway Mondo Island (no relation!), Kong is befriended by the Bond family. Young Bobby (pictured on the album cover) discovers Kong and introduces him to his father, Professor Bond and his sister Susan. While they are thrilled at their discovery of the "8th Wonder of the World," they soon learn the true value of Kong's friendship as he defends them from dinosaurs, prehistoric monsters, and even con men! While this cartoon will never win any awards for originality or animation, I still get excited when I hear the marching theme song- "King Kong, you know the name of King Kong; King Kong, you know the fame of King Kong; King Kong, 10 times as big as a man!" Thanks to the popularity of Peter Jackson's recent "Kong" movie, this extremely rare cartoon series is now available on DVD. Grab it while you can, as this kind of nostalgia marketing is meant to cash in on a current fad and rarely stays in print for long. The album that I'm sharing with you was released on Epic Records in 1966. It features the great theme song twice as it opens and closes the audio of four TV episodes. The stories are narrated by Bob McFadden and feature the original voice cast of Carl Banas, Susan Conway, John Drainie, Billie Richards, Alf Scopp, and Paul Soles. "A True Space Adventure Space Shuttle" (Kid Stuff Phono Picture Disc Limited Edtion Collector Series KPD 6005)

"Construction began on Columbia in 1975 primarily in Palmdale, California. Columbia was named after the Boston-based sloop Columbia captained by American Robert Gray, who explored the Pacific Northwest and became the first American vessel to circumnavigate the world; the name also honored Columbia, the Command Module of Apollo 11. After construction, the orbiter arrived at John F. Kennedy Space Center on March 25, 1979, to prepare for its first launch. On March 19, 1981, during preparations for a ground test, five workers were asphyxiated during a nitrogen purge, resulting in two deaths.

The first flight of Columbia (STS-1) was commanded by John Young (a space veteran from the Gemini and Apollo eras) and piloted by Robert Crippen, who had never been in space before, but who served as a support crew member for the Skylab missions and Apollo-Soyuz. It launched on April 12, 1981, and returned on April 14, 1981, after orbiting the earth 36 times.

On February 1, 2003, Columbia disintegrated during re-entry over Texas, on its 28th mission. All seven crew members aboard perished." Wikipedia

This LP is from NASA Flight Tapes from this first mission. My LP is in really bad shape. It took me hours just trying to get out most of the skips. I did edit some of the noise out, but if anyone can do better with it please do so:

I have no recollection of where I got this from. I no Way Out Junk shared it in November 2006, and Branded In The 80's talked about it, but didn't have the music share. Tony at "Way Out Junk" said his came from Daddykin, but the save I have doesn't have all of the tracks his has so I'm not sure exactly where I got this from. Anyway here it is in the version I have. Thanks whoever it was I got it from.

THE GLOBETROTTERS!! Cartoon LP Plus 2 Bonus Tracks!

DADDYKIN HAD THIS TO SAY WHEN HE SHARED THIS LP:

"Hi. This is the Globetrotters LP from 1970. Kirshner Records released this album to coincide with the Saturday morning cartoon by Hanna-Barbera. The cartoon was so popular that it made superstars out of the already famous basketball legends. Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal became household names in 1970. Enter Don Kirshner, who will make a bubblegum band from any known substance.

The Globetrotters album is unique in that it transcended the kiddie market, and produced a huge beach-music hit with "Rainy Day Bells." Yes, this is the hit version that appears on The Beach Music Anthology box set among many other beach compilations.

The other songs are a lot of fun as well. Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield penned half of the album, and the other half was written by gum legends like Jeff Barry, Ron Dante, and Jamie Carr. Good stuff!

I start the CD with a bonus track, "Sweet Georgia Brown" by Brother Bones and His Shadows. This is the original record that the real-life Harlem Globetrotters adopted as their theme song! They used to sell singles of this version at their "games."

The ending track is a cover of Gene Chandler's "Duke of Earl," which was the non-LP B-side to "Rainy Day Bells." So then, here is the Complete Globetrotters! Artwork included. Enjoy!

DAVID CASSIDY- "The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall"!! His Rare 1975 RCA Records Debut!

THIS IS A RE-POST OF A MONDODADDYKIN SHARE FROM LAST YEAR. HERE'S WHAT DADDYKIN HAD TO SAY ABOUT IT ON HIS BLOG:

"Hi. Even though this was technically David Cassidy's fifth "solo" album, many consider it his first because of the circumstances surrounding it. His career to this point was orchestrated by Bell Records. Even the non-Partridge Family records had a similar thread in that they used a lot of the same musicians, songwriters and producers. Now, to my ears, the Bell period will always be the golden period. Wes Farrell's production and arrangements, using strings and harpsichords with a pop group, were the perfect complement to David's throaty vocals. Let's face it, the boy had some chops. Well, when "The Partridge Family" was cancelled in 1974, so ended his contract with Bell. The end of a great era. Now a free agent for the first time in his career, David signed with RCA, who gave him complete control over his output. Cassidy could finally make the rock and roll album that he'd always wanted to. Released in 1975, this first RCA album is almost a concept album. Titled "The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall," it's a tongue-in-cheek jab at his own rise and fall. Cassidy produced the album himself with the help of Bruce Johnston. In addition to Johnston, the players include Beach Boy Carl Wilson, Richie Furay, Jesse Ed Davis, Danny Kortchmar, and Jim Gordon- all session players of rock and roll legend. The Turtles' Flo and Eddie sing backup on a couple of songs, and there's even a comedy skit with Phil Austin of The Firesign Theatre!
